General Information

Institute for Energy Saving and Energy Management (IEE) within the National Technical University of Ukraine "Kiev Polytechnic Institute" was established in 1997 as a result of a Joint Order by the State Committee for Energy Conservation and the Ukrainian Ministry of Education (No. 137/45, dated 07/05/1997) which defines the IEE as a basic energy management educational and training institution in the country. Now IEE is a leading educational, training, R&D and consulting institution in the field of sustainable energy development, energy efficiency and energy management in Ukraine.

IEE trains professionals for electricity, fuel and energy complexes, building urban underground structures and the environment, which are capable of developing, design and operate the energy systems and systems to create modern energy management systems, operating on modern energy-saving technologies, underground objects Items and systems of cities, to conduct monitoring of ecological condition of industrial enterprises on the basis of wide application of information and computer technologies.

Specialists of IEE have high professional standards and have been trained at different courses and seminars, conducted by European and American experts in Ukraine. They enjoy the respect and support of specialists from the State Committee for Energy efficiency, Ministry of Energy & Coal, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Industrial Policy and State Committee for Standards of Ukraine, regional administration, industrial enterprises and other organisations.

Structure

The IEE is presently situated within building 22 of the National Technical University of Ukraine "Kiev Polytechnic Institute". It is equipped with modern training and demonstration equipment, working examples of energy efficient equipment and its staff have extensive practical experience in the use of this equipment.

Electric Power Supply (EPS) Department

The department trains and prepares specialists (bachelors, engineers, masters) on speciality in “Energy management” (EM) and “Electrical systems of power supply” (ESP) for the electricity complex, industrial enterprises of all industries, utilities and agriculture; various companies, agencies, associations and other structures that can develop, design and operate energy complex and systems, integrated power systems, including centralized and decentralized systems, create Microsystems and a virtual power station, working with modern energy efficient systems, with wide application of information and computer technology, modern laboratories.

        R&D, Engineering and Consulting Activity of the Department

EPS works in such directions as:

• sustainable energy development;
• eco-smart building & eco-smart city design;
• smart grid technologies;
• analysis, forecasting and control of energy utilisation;
• multi-criteria optimisation of resources allocation;
• multi-functional tariff system for electricity with environmental issues;
• demand side management
• energy market;
• normative documents, standards and application of rules for metering equipment for electricity account in market conditions;
• state standards and normative documents in the field of energy saving;
• environmental and energy management system;
• climate change problem;
• renewable energy sources and distributed generation;
• energy audit methodology
  

On the basis of EPS in NTUU “KPI” ware created and implemented the Complex program “Sustainable Energy Development”. This Program was created in Scientific & Education Institutions (on the bacis of EPS) and this Institutions is the structural subdivision of Science and Innovations Department of NTUU “KPI”:

... development, design and implementation of metering and energy control systems (commercial and technical metering/accounting for energy resources consumption, control of energy consumers' work regimes, etc.) in real time conditions for residential and public buildings, industrial sites and regional energy supply utilities.

Training Centre for Energy Management (TCEM)

... training and retraining, professional skills improvement on eco&energy management, implementation of new information technologies into training and application of these technologies into scientific aspects of IEE activity; distance learning course on Energy Management.

The main tasks of TCEM include:

• the creation and promotion of "energy awareness" in various aspects of human life and production activity;
• training, professional skills improvement and retraining for specialists in the field of energy management;
• development, continuous improvement and dissemination of methodology and information materials in schools, universities, industrial enterprises and organisations in other sectors of economy;
• R&D and design activities relating to the sustainable energy development, efficient use of energy, environmental and energy management system, climate change problem.
